About us

Mission Challenge was founded in 1986 by it's director, Dr. Bob Wilmarth. Bob, originally from Alabama, left his practice in Florida and, along with his wife Janet and their children, moved to Costa Rica to be missionaries in 1982. Bob used his skills as a veterinarian to reach out to the people in order to be able to share the good news of Jesus Christ. As a result "Goats for God" was established. Soon afterwards "Pasteje", meaning high green pastures, became the base for Mission Challenge and other aspects of the mission began to develop.

We feel God has called us to be directly involved in supporting and promoting missions by ministering to missionaries, Christian leaders, and any member of the Body of Christ seeking to be involved in missions on a short or long-term basis.
We believe we are to be involved in encouragement, exhortation, facilitation, training ,as well as providing areas and times or retreat and rest, stengthening, and any other means or methods to build up and encourage members of the Body to continue in the fight.

God has allowed Mission Challenge to be used to touch many ministries and lives througout the years. We have been honored to be able to be a part of seeing many people enter the ministry on a permanent basis after experiencing the mission field on a short term basis with Mission Challenge.

"Mission Challenge" is a non profit, non-denominational organization which is able to exist through the generous donations of churches and individuals who believe in and support the ministries and staff.
